Fast trains will halt at Diva station only by year-end; 10 fast trains to halt at Diva station
Railway commuters from Diva will have to wait for a few more days to board a fast local from Diva, as the Central Railway recently announced a new deadline of December to halt fast trains at Diva. The authorities this time have claimed that the deadline has been postpone due to the rains.
The announcement was made by divisional railway manager Amitabh Ojha at a meeting with MP Shrikant Shinde at CST on Friday. Shinde along with few railway passenger association members approached the railways to put forth a list of pending demands for suburban stations.
“The work of construction of additional platforms and slewing of tracks has been slowed down due to the rains. The entire work will now be ready for operations by the year-end,” said Ojha.
ToI had recently highlighted the possible delay in the work adding the earlier deadline of October would be breached. The level crossing at the station has to be shut for few days to push it further in the city limits to make space for laying the new track at the station. However, police and civic authorities are non-committal about shutting the gate even temporarily as the stretch witness’s heavy traffic throughout the day.
Further, addressing the problem of platform-footboard gaps, Ojha clarified the work of increasing the height of platforms as per the dimensions of the new rakes was being studied and would be commissioned soon.
Shinde also presented several problems like inadequate facilities including ticket windows, toilets, canteens and bridges at several stations along the network. The administration agreed to look into the issues and assured to start corrective action for the same.
Talking about reducing strain on existing rakes, the need for starting more 15-car rakes was also stressed upon by the members to which Ojha informed that a proposal to upgrade the infrastructure at stations was sent to the railway board for approval.
